Why Dogs Are Better Travellers Than We Are
By Meher Kapoor · Editor · 14 November 2025
We have this idea, when we travel, that the trip owes us something. A checklist. A revelation. A photograph.
A dog has no such expectations. A dog on a mountain does not care about the itinerary. They notice what we've been trained to skip: a lizard on a wall, the smell of a stranger's hand, the sound of the wind at 6:14 am on a Tuesday morning in Naddi.
Take your dog on a trip once and try to keep up. You will not. And that is the whole point of the trip you thought you were planning.
The best pet friendly homestays understand this quietly. They put out a water bowl before you ask. They don't announce that they are pet friendly with a bright sign; they simply are. They make room for your dog on the couch and they don't sigh when you tell them your dog sleeps on the bed.
Bring your dog. Watch what they teach you about the actual purpose of a pause.
